Geohot to Release Blacksn0w for Baseband Unlocking On November 4 (video)

New Geohot jailbreak update to jailbreak via baseband unlockingEarlier last week, we had written about a new update released by Geohot to his Blackra1n iPhone jailbreaking tool that shall help users on iPhone OS 3.1.X to jailbreak their iPhones. 

Back then however, Geohot had posted the following disclaimer:

“Warning 3g and 3gs unlockers, do not upgrade to 3.1.2 using iTunes if you want to keep your unlock. Baseband cannot be downgraded. Check out the dev team’s offerings. Also blackra1n doesn’t hacktivate”

If you are one of those looking for a method to unlock basebad 05.11.07 that was bundled from iPhone OS 3.1 onwards, then there is now reason to cheer. Geohot has revealed yet another impending update called Blacksn0w, that will enable iPhone users who have upgraded (in many cases accidentally) to baseband 05.11.07 to unlock of their iPhones and thus work over any GSM network.

Blacksn0w will be available for iPhone users from November 4 and like the previous updates, this one shall also be free. Also, hactivation shall be made available this time around.

    Well it just updates the baseband, since you didn’t screw up like i did and used a custom firmware ur baseband is fine so you won’t need this unless you want to upgrade your baseband just to have the latest one lol. That would be a waste of time in my opinion though.

    you have to jailbrake it with blackra1n. Than you will have the blackra1n app. start that app on your iphone from there you can download blacksn0w for the unlock. Also you can download cydia or rock for other apps like games and stuff..

    Well I do have a problem:3Gfirmware 3.1.2t-mobile Germany sim lockI jailbreakedwith blackr1n downloaded blacksn0w from blackrain app. Everything fine.BUT NOW: i put in a sim from another carrier there is the connecting picture on the iphone telling me to conact to itunes because of a different sim. It shows me the new carrier, I can call the number and pick up the phone. But after: “please connect to itunes” pic. If I connect to itunes it will not notify the phone.ANY IDEAS ??!!??

    Having problems with WiFi ? Do this …..1. Go to SETTINGS2. Go to GENERAL3. Go to RESET and select RESET ALL SETTINGSAfter this u should be able to scan and connect to up ur wifi.You will need to reenter some previous settings you had i.e WAP keys etc.Another point . . If you have any 3G unrestrictor APps running , Stop them before making it sn0w.Hope this helps

    telling me to conact to itunes because of a different sim. It shows me the new carrier, I can receive calls and pick up the phone, also I can receive messages. But after: “please connect to itunes” pic. If I connect to itunes it will not notify the phone.     People say that there’s no advantage gained from updating your baseband 04.25 unlocked with Ultrasn0w to 05.11 and unlocking with Blacksn0w. But I beg to differ, I’ve just done that and my signal seems much better and I got my carrier logo back! :)

    Great work geohot. Now let’s see how long it would take u to help so many of us iPhone users to bypass the srceen lockcode that we all forgot the passcode on. with a program because iTunes will not let you restore. We need to get into the root. Well I think you of all people know what we need. Something like blackra1n but sould say press to unlock lock srceen. Just one click a way.     Most phones ( or all phones ) have sim locks. not a lot of phones have unlockers when compared to all locked phones.

    I downloaded Blackra1n for mac ( i have a 2.2.1 ipod touch) and whenever i click make it ra1n, itunes opens automatically and also the ipod just flashes white, which excited me at first, but then my ipod just goes normal again and there is no blackra1n app. i know you are probably ignoring blackra1n comments becuase you get a lot but i really want to have the amount of fun that everyone else is having. please help. that’d be really cool.     There’s no solution to it. You’ll be safer if you don’t jailbreak but the risk is very small to get an infection.Macs can also get viruses, but that’s also very unlikely.

    this works on my iphone 3gs, but after i turn it off i have to connect it to itunes and restore it everytime…what am i doing wrong?

    Got a question. Ever since I use this, every time I turn off my Itouch then turn it back on, it asks me to hook it up to the computer. Any way to fix this?

    @Gamerguy3379 you must have a 3rd gen thats why, its tethered for 3rd gens and untethered for 2nd gens, i know it sucks im waiting to for a untethered jailbreak

    AN untethered jailbreak would take a while to be developed, Apple recently Entered a new bootrom so the devteam/geohot wil have to find a way to load the jailbreak

    I restored and updated my iPhone 3GS 32gb a while ago (January 1, 2010 – 11:30pm). But the blackra1n RC3 didn’t work this time. :( I just get this blank screen after the installation. Try it! lolBut I still worship you! Hehehe! :)

Do you have any plans for an attempt at jailbreaking that?     you should attempt to try a jailbreak on 3.1.3 for all devices, or atleast hack itunes so people can downgrade back down to 3.1.2.

    it sounds like we can’t downgrade to 3.1.2 in itues? i upgraded to 3.1.3 a little bit and interrupt it. Now I try to restore firmware it says not compatible, havn’t tried 3.1.3 yet..

    wat unlock does is it lets you use any carrier, lets say your with at&t, when you unlock your iphone it lets you use any other sim thats different.
