Apple tweaking iPhone to work better on AT&T’s network

Powerpage.org cites a Wall Street Journal article reporting that Apple has worked with AT&T to “rejigger” how the iPhone works with AT&T’s towers, resulting in a reduced load for some tasks.

It was not clear what changes were made, but apparently a “crash course in wireless technology” allowed them to figure out how the iPhone can get along better with AT&T.

Such news indicates the lengths that Apple is willing to go to in order to be a good partner with AT&T. While few people are singing AT&T’s praises, apparently

iPhone OS 4.0: Exposé Like Multitasking; Universal Mailbox; Add Contacts To Home Screen

iPad and iPhone OS to be unified by iPhone OS 4.0AppleInsider is reporting that iPhone OS 4.0 will finally allow multitasking so that users can use multiple third party iPhone apps in the background.

According to ‘people familiar with Apple’s plans for the new firmware, users will be able to switch between iPhone apps running in the background using an interface similar to the Exposé function found in Mac OS X.

AppleInsider had reported earlier couple of weeks back that Apple has developed a “full-on solution” to multitasking in the iPhone OS 4.0.

iPhone App Store Now Available As a Facebook Application

With this new application, users can surf through iPhone apps, download and share these apps among friends inside Facebook.

Just like the original App Store on iTunes, the App Store Facebook application lets users to sort through the 160,000+ apps on the App Store and view the list of free and paid applications under each category separately.

With just days to go for the iPad to launch in the US, Apple has scored the rights to two very significant patents relating to the iPad. The first patent relates to the deployment of accelerometer in conjunction with various applications on the iPad like games, maps and 3D sound speakers.

ipad news roundupThe patent is significant in that it offers Apple the exclusive rights to incorporate the accelerometer technology on Tablet devices in general which will give the company a much needed competitive edge over rivals in the Tablet space. 

Another significant patent awarded to Apple relates to the iPad’s broadband antenna that overcomes problems faced with traditional antennas where a wide range of communication bands may not be covered without noticing a significant drop in radio-frequency performance. Apple’s broadband antenna for the iPad with a coupled feed avoids radio-frequency interference with the help of an appropriate shielding mechanism.
