Assassin’s Creed II multiplayer, Rayman 2 out now on the iPhone

Two major league games have hit the App Store already this week, one of them for the surprise price of free. Ubisoft has released the multiplayer version of their Assassin’s Creed II game on the App Store, and it’s available for free for the first 48 hours.

The game’s a top-down multiplayer game that has you walking around the world of the console version, both targeting other players and being targeted yourself. All the reports say it’s definitely worth a try, and if you can catch it before they raise the price back up (sounds like Ubisoft is trying to find a place for their releases), you should.

And as expected, Rayman 2 is also out on the App Store — it’s a port of the 3D Playstation platformer that was actually a Ubisoft property, but as you can see from the trailer above, this one’s been ported by Gameloft. As with most iPhone platformers, the game uses virtual controls, but Touch Arcade says they work just fine. The save system is the biggest issue — your iPhone is not the best platform for playing games for long stretches of time, and any game that kicks you back out to a menu if you happen to step away for a second will cause frustration eventually. Still, it sounds like a solid platformer port, and there are certainly fans of those out there. The game is $6.99 on the App Store right now.

    there are a couple of flaws in this iphone version…. •no bonus level at the end of a level•since dis is a dreamcast port, no Globox village, it’s minigames, and the crystals

    I played this on a PS2, but in that version it had a full story, overworld and more that the N64 version didnt have.. one of the greatest series ever though

    This app doesnt lag if u read it right in the desc (of app) it says u need iphone 3rd gen or higher (not sure about ipod)

    I own this app and I must say that gameloft has really outdone themselves. The graphics, the controls, the framerate, EVEYTHING!! A must buy for fans of the game as a kid.

    I got this and finished. It’s a good game, but being a huge fan of the soundtrack, they really screwed up what music plays where. (For instance, when you rescue the babies in the mines, it plays the menu theme and not the light-hearted cheery music that’s supposed to play!)

    I have this for N64 and PS1 and unkike most people i sorta like the music on the N64:) Also the PS1 version was good too although they got rid of 200 lums and made the game shorter:( Sadly i dont have a Dreamcast yet i want one badly but for now N64 is the best:D

    Is the demo no longer available? I mean, on the iPhone, There USED to be the first level to play, but all I can play now is the “lift game” and that’s it… Could this be because I updated the app? D: Are they trying to make be buy it by removing the demo level? (Maybe it was a timed trial?) That’s stupid. Screw it, I’m not buying this game again, I’m pulling out my Dreamcast and playing it on there. >:3
