iDongle – Standalone Tethered Booting For Your Jailbroken iPhone

The new iPhone 3GS models with updated ROM do not allow users to perform the traditional full jailbreak. As a result, there may be instances when the user may be required to perform a tethered jailbreak everytime their iPhone crashes or reboots. This can be an annoying experience especially if you are away from your computer or cannot tether immediately.

iDongle is a device that can come pretty handy under such circumstances. This is a standalone piece of hardware that comes with a mini-USB connector on one end and a male 30 pin connector on the other. The 60x30mm piece uses a 9V battery to offer the necessary power to not only boot your jailbroken iPhone, but also assist in jailbreaking and hacktivating the same if it is not already done. iDongle currently supports iPhone 3GS and iPod Touch 2G/3G models.

Renaud, the developer behind the product has revealed that the device is still in prototype stage and manufacturing of the device shall commence once he is able to attract signficant number of pre-orders. The price of the device is still unknown though it is expected to be around the 30€ mark ($41 approximately)  .

If you are eager to pre-order a piece yourself, you may click here to visit Renaud’s website. Do let us know what you think of this standalone tethered booting device in the comments.

Clearly those of you who think this is stupid do not understand. @mrhack636 chill man you don’t know what it’s doing. First of all it’s not DFU mode, second of all, it is not jailbreaking the device, third of all, it is not cleaning or doing anything. All it is doing is turning on the iPhone, because the later MC models can not boot up after being jailbroken!

  • natedogfresh

Where can I buy one? How much does it cost? Is it on Amazon?

  • BR612

@mrhack636 No man, you are not getting’it. This iPhone is one of the new models the “MC” model, with this iPhone/iPod, once you jailbreak you can’t turn off/restart the device because you will lose the jailbreak and need the computer to bring it back. This device is handy because is a computerless alternative.

  • MuscleNerd

The reboot wasn’t into DFU mode. DFU mode won’t show a logo (the screen will be black).Re: “flashing”…this isn’t a jailbreak, and it doesn’t flash anything. Its entire purpose is to get an already jailbroken (but tethered JB) device out of recovery mode (what you see after the reboot) and into normal mode. Which is exactly what the video shows.

  • mrhack636

Am I the only person that saw him show the phone with some blue apple wallpaper then just reboot the phone into DFU mode. Then supposedly “flash” the phone with this device then it goes back to the OS with same blue apple wallpaper. This didn’t prove anything other then you know howto put your device into DFU mode.Lets see you update the OS showing the old OS version before then the new version after the flash to prove this thing actually works!
