Barnes & Noble Confirms Launch Of eReader App For iPad

Barnes and Noble iPad app launching soonBarnes & Noble has confirmed that the company shall be launching an eReader application for iPad users in the next few weeks.

The new application is expected to be on the lines of the B&N’s iPhone app that allows users to access millions of ebooks and magazines from the company’s eBookstore.

Elaborating on the upcoming launch, the company writes in its blog :

“Designed specifically for the iPad, our new B&N eReader will give our customers access to more than one million eBooks, magazines and newspapers in the Barnes & Noble eBookstore, as well as the existing content in their Barnes & Noble digital library. (That includes eBooks and content customers have downloaded to their nook™ eBook reader.) “

Barnes & Noble has not revealed the exact launch date though it is expected to be during the first week of April when the iPad goes on sale. While news of B&N’s iPad app launch is very much along expected lines, it is an interesting development considering that the company may now be pitted against Apple’s own iBookstore and Kindle’s iPhone app

Having said that, B&N is likely to be banking on its existing customer base to expand its reach through the iPad. Unlike Apple’s iBooks app, B&N’s eReader app can be accessed on a wide range of devices including the Nook reader, iPhone, iPod Touch, desktop computers and through applications on several other OS platforms. It is this increased accessibility that might give Barnes & Noble’s app an edge over Apple’s iBookstore, which is targeted primarily at the iPad users.
