Android OS Now Ported To iPhone 3G [video]

planetbeing of the iPhone Dev team has just announced that they have now managed to successfully port Android OS to iPhone 3G after initially porting it to the first generation iPhone. 

According to him this “marks an important milestone for the more DIY-minded owners of the millions of iPhone 3G devices that are out there”.

iPhone hacking expert David Wang of the iPhone Dev team (also known as planetbeing) who was credited for porting Linux to the iPhone had announced couple of weeks back that the iPhone hacking community had successfully ported Android OS to the first generation iPhone.

Here are some of the things you will be able to do with Android OS installed on iPhone 3G:

  • Browse the web
  • Run Android applications that do not require audio support
  • Send and receive SMS
  • Android icon to the boot menu to make it more easily accessible (pretty cool)

This version of the Android OS port also includes many improvements and bug fixes.

They plan to work on the following things in future versions of the port:

  • Support for audio
  • Improved power management and backlight control

They are also planning to release the packaged binaries and instructions on how to install it shortly. planetbeing says:

The hope is that you should soon be able to carry around your first-generation iPhone or iPhone 3G running Android and use it just as normally as you would any other Android phone.

Wang has not provided any information on when it will be available for iPhone 3GS.

We will let you know as soon as the Android OS port for iPhone is available.

    What’s the progress on this? I can’t believe how horrendous iOS4 runs on the 3g. I’m saving up for an HTC Panache so hopefully I won’t have to put up with mediocre hardware running on crippled software.

    when i was installing openiboot my iphone turn off whent i turned it back it was in the duel booting but when whent presed ios it never loaded it just froze whit a white screen and i cant do naything else they all freeze help pls

    Is it possible to get my verbose boot back? I used redsn0w 9.4 JB (selected verbose), but now I just get the regular apple logo. I’ve been trying to figure it out almost all day.     Why? OSX is much better and faster than Android, whats the purpose of this? Have you tried doing the opposite to an android phone? now that would be improvement. its like implating the engine of a 1.2 micra into a bmw m6 :( but imagine the opposite, get my drift??

    @megacool213 Yes, iOS is specifically designed to run only only on iPhone CPUs so not possible to run it on any other machine unlike Android which is open source

    @resellworld actually its usually the phone that makes the game smooth or not.iphone has a pretty good processor. but you cant just say angry birds on android is not as smoother. i mean really, play angry birds on an old phone like the g1 and then play it on the samsung captivate. samsung captivate will obviously run it better. im just trying to tell you that it’s not the operating system that decided how smooth the phone is, it’s the processor, and graphics chip.
