AT&T To Offer MobileProtect Insurance Plan To iPhone Users From June 6
We all love our iPhone for its design and form factor. However, these aspects are also a major reason why the iPhone is so vulnerable to damage. Until now, users who wish to sign up for an iPhone insurance had to go for AppleCare.
That could soon change as reports are coming in that AT&T may introduce its own iPhone insurance policy shortly.
According to an article on Boy Genius Report, the new MobileProtect Insurance plan is being introduced specifically for the iPhone and will be offered in partnership with Asurion. You may be aware that Asurion is also AT&T’s partner in the standard Wireless Phone Insurance plan that is offered to several other mobile phones on AT&T’s network.

As you can see from the images above, the new MobileProtect Insurance plan is likely to be offered to iPhone users starting from June 6 2010. Customers buying a new iPhone are required to sign up for the insurance plan within 30 days of purchase. The policy however is not applicable to existing iPhone customers. AT&T is expected to offer the MobileProtect plan via the Apple App Store.
The basic insurance coverage will come at a price of $13.99 per month. However, the deductibles for the same can range between $99 for an 8GB iPhone 3G and $199 for an iPhone 3GS 32GB model. The insurance plan comprehensively covers iPhones from all kinds of hardware failures, accidents and theft, which may hence justify the cost. The cost of iPhone insurance from AT&T appears to be quite steep though some users might be interested as it also covers theft, which could be a major selling point.
