iPhone 4 Drop Test [video] With Bumper Case

iPhone 4 retina display analysisIf you were thinking of buying a bumper for your shiny new iPhone 4 then you might want to think again.

Folks at iFixyouri, an online repair shop for iPhones have performed a drop test on the iPhone 4 with Apple’s bumper case to see if it can prevent glass and LCD damage.

iFixyouri report:

We’ve have known for a little while now that iPhone 4 bumpers do not offer all of the protection needed because customers have called in an told us. Although it does not take a video by iFixyouri to inform you that dropping your new iPhone 4 on concrete is a bad idea, hopefully this video squashed any doubts as to the bumpers effectiveness.

You can checkout the videos of iFixyouri’s iPhone 4 drop test with and without a bumper from a height where you would be typically holding the phone in front of you onto concrete.

So it took only 3 drops to damage iPhone 4 with the bumper case. In case of iPhone 4 without a case, it turned off in two drops and 4 drops to crack the screen.

iFixyouri points out that the bumper case protects iPhone 4 only when it hits the concrete on a corner but if the iPhone 4 falls on the glass then it can’t prevent iPhone 4 from getting damaged.

    Omg! It’s just a demo to show the durability of the phone. It answers the question many of us wanted to know: is this thing gonna break the first, maybe even second time I drop it? No phone is bullet proof and if you’re buying this phone you’re very much aware that it’s made of glass and glass is not a new material that we’re unfamiliar with. We all know that glass breaks eventually. Especially when dropped. Geesh!

    Interesting thing is, these guys were never gonna stop dropping the phone until it broke. The aim of this video was to keep dropping it until it broke. Now I have checked Apple’s web site and nowhere I have I found any statement that claims that the Iphone 4 is unbreakable.Give any phone with a big glass similar in size and I will reproduce this for you.     @MrKebabi its not crappy quality la, its a well made phone. but it IS glass. and no matter how reinforced it is, it is still a brittle material, which will shatter if dropped too many times. i just think apple sacrificed the strength of the phone for the sake of looks, for the iphone 3gs was much better protected with the plastic surrounding the glass screen.

    @GWAuzzie it’s not that cut and dry. There are many “quality products” that will break if dropped. Sometimes durability is sacrificed for a better design. Not saying that’s ok but it happens. I also wouldn’t trade an iPhone for those first cell phones that were the size of a brick because it is going to withstand a drop better.

Last week on the subway some girl dropped their Blackberry and the screen was shattered, she was pretty upset all because someone bumped her elbow while she was holding the phone.
