Cool mod: iPhone as digital microscope

Here’s a great and super-simple mod that turns an iPhone 4 into a portable digital microscope. Using an inexpensive microscope found on Amazon (seven bucks as of this writing), an iPhone case and some superglue, this user has hacked together a stable, portable digital microscope that also takes pictures.

The iPhone’s flat back makes attaching the microscope super easy. After getting it glued to the case, simply snap it onto the iPhone and start observing things close up! For bonus points, pair the iPhone with BlueCam for iPad, which feeds an iPhone 4′s live video stream to an iPad via Bluetooth for big-screen observations.

We love this mod! Very well done.

    Unfortunately my scope came cross-threaded at the lens cap and was very difficult to remove. I may have to carefully glue that piece to the rest of the scope to make it stay once the lens cap is glued to the case (I used Gorilla Glue which won’t set fast like super glue, but allows one to set the lens cap exactly in the center).I paid about $3.25USD for the scope and $0.87USD for the clear plastic case, both on eBay and both shipped free and direct from Hong Kong (came in about 14 days on each)

    Thanks for that! You can also put your iPhone camera, or any reasonable cell phone camera up to the eyepiece of a telescope and photograph stars that you can’t see with the naked eye. One big problem though is that they come out in basic primary colours, but there’s a lot more there on the phone cam than you could see!Cheers
