A new jailbreak tweak will have you adding little icons and symbols to everything you write, all via iOS software keyboard.pictokeyboard3

You’ve probably noticed the current trend of adding the Apple logo to your Twitter username or perhaps having the little black icon show in your profile page. Ever wondered how they do that? Using the magic of Unicode, actually.

If you’re the kind of person that likes to add fancy little icons and symbols to everything from tweets to emails then you may be in luck, especially if you don’t mind jailbreaking to get this little bad of wholesome goodness.

A new jailbreak tweak allows users to use Unicode icons anywhere in iOS, so long as the keyboard can be invoked. The tweak effectively turns said keyboard into a collection of icons to choose from, adding a little variety to our lives that couldn’t normally be achieved with just 26 letters to play with!

PictoKeyboard actually works by temporarily replacing an unused international keyboard with the new Unicode one, meaning that you can add Apple icons and smiley faces to your content at will, should the desire take you.

The real downside for us is that this will mean we have to endure even more crazy icon-filled tweets in our timeline! It’s hard enough to understand what is going on at the best of times, what with all this “TXT SPK” all you young whippersnappers keep subjecting us to! Yes, we’re getting old.

PictoKeyboard currently works with all iOS 5 devices including the iPad, and is available via Cydia right now under the BigBoss repo.

We’re going to go ahead and put this in the category of absolutely pointless unless you happen to be a 12-year-old girl or a particular fan of adding little black umbrellas to your email signature. Still, this is the beauty of the jailbreak scene – there really is something for everyone in Cydia, especially if you like to customize the stock iOS experience.

We don’t see Apple borrowing this particular idea any time soon, though. Apple might be changing since the passing of Steve Jobs, but it’s not changing that much!

Or is it?
