That really did not take long. Since Monday, Nov 10, 2014, simply 54 days after the initial launch of iOS 8 on September 17, Apple is reporting that 56 percent of all iOS devices are now running the new operating system.
That makes a total of virtually 96 percent of all iOS devices running some version of iOS 7 or iOS 8. By comparison, an appearance at Google’s Android Designer dash shows that versions of Android 4.4 KitKat (launched October 31, 2013) are simply operating on 30.2 % of Android devices, with Android 4.1 – 4.3 Jelly Bean (first launched July 10, 2012) still being the most widespread model of the operating system and operating on somewhat over 50 percent of all devices.
The current Android variation, 5.5 Lollipop (released Nov 3, 2014), does not even turn up on the chart.
