You may have heard about Nest – the learning thermostat created by Tony Fadell, who ran the iPod and iPhone divisions of Apple for years and who many consider as the “grandfather of the iPod”.

Nest is a revolutionary new digital thermostat that sports a gorgeous round design with a slightly domed glass screen. It comes with built-in Wi-Fi  and allows you to control the thermostat from anywhere using an iPhone or iPad or computer.

We’re telling you about the Nest thermostat as it looks like Apple will soon start selling it in their retail stores, according to a report on 9to5Mac.

a trusted source was able to provide a first hand look at the Nest packaged at an Apple Store today, complete with the part number. Priced at $249.99 (the same as Nest’s price through Nest’s online store), the Nest has a part number of H9279ll/a in Apple’s systems.

Our source wasn’t able to say when the Nest will be going on sale at Apple Stores, but was able to inform us that it will be soon. Deliveries of the Nest are currently being made at multiple Apple Stores, but we’re hearing whispers that the thermostat may not go on sale at all stores simultaneously.

That’s a big win for Fadell’s startup. We’re assuming that it will also be available in Apple’s online stores.

$249.99 is quite high for a thermostat, but according to Nest, you will recover the costs in less than two years through energy savings by turning heating and cooling down automatically when you’re not at home.

We’ll update this post as soon as we get any further information on its availability.
