Apple’s iCloud Music Library ‘unable to connect’ for some users today

A growing number of users report issues with connecting to Apple’s iCloud Music Library service following the release of iOS and macOS updates earlier today. Users encountering the problem are faced with an error message in iTunes on macOS that reads: “Unable to connect to iCloud music library”.

iCloud Music Library syncs a user’s music library across supported devices, including iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, Mac, or PC. If unable to connect, users that have iCloud Music Library enabled may be unable to access content on some devices if not yet synced and or downloaded locally.

Apple has yet to update its system status page for iCloud that tracks downtime for the various iOS and macOS features that use the service. So far it appears the outage is only affecting the Music Library feature and not other iCloud services.

Earlier today Apple released macOS 10.12.1 and iOS 10.1 updates alongside watchOS 3.1 for Apple Watch and tvOS 10.0.1 for Apple TV, but the iCloud Music Library outage is affecting both users on the latest releases and earlier versions.

We’ll update you here if Apple offers an update on the outage.
