Apple let us know earlier this week that it would have a ‘one-day shopping event’ – Applespeak for Black Friday sale – and with midnight approaching in Australia, the online store there has gone offline in readiness.

The company’s original teaser page didn’t give any clues as to the deals that will be on offer, but based on past experience, we wouldn’t expect too much.

Years ago, Apple used to offer discounts, but nothing that matched those available from other retailers. More recently, the company has offered gift cards with purchases of iPods, Apple TV, Beats headphones, iPads and Macs – but again, you’ll usually be better off looking elsewhere for actual discounts on the products.

We’ll be keeping an eye on the deals once the site returns, but it’s likely you’ll find better deals over on Amazon and 9to5Toys.
