A few weeks after launch, the iPhone 5c is being discounted by big box retailers in different promotions that kick off this weekend. At three different US retailers, the colorful handset will be available for $50 or less.

Best Buy kicked off the pricing war with the announcement that it was offering the iPhone 5c for $49. Customers buying the $99 phone in store would receive a $50 gift card that can be used for the phone’s purchase. Soon after Best Buy’s promotion was announced, Radio Shack confirmed it would match Best Buy’s pricing in a promotion that starts on October 5th and runs until November 2nd.

Not to be outdone, Walmart chimed in with its own promotion that will drop the price on the iPhone 5c to a low $45. This cuts the price of the already discounted iPhone 5c by $35 from its launch price of $79.

We won’t read too much into these discounts and won’t assume retailers are responding to poor iPhone 5c sales. Though the flagship iPhone 5s appears to be more popular than its more colorful sibling, it’s possible these promotions could have been planned from the beginning. In the end, the reasons for the promotion don’t really matter if you need a new iPhone and want an iPhone 5c. Now is as good of a time as any to grab one of the latest iPhone models from Apple.
