Many iPhone users are familiar with BiteSMS, a replacement for iOS’ built-in SMS app with many extra features.
If you’ve jailbroken your iPhone with JailbreakMe 3.0, you’re probably aware that this app was broken on devices that were jailbroken using the tool, and actually had the capability to render those useless, until now. BiteSMS 5.5 Beta 1, which has now reached Cydia, is said to work on devices jailbroken with JailbreakMe 3.0 perfectly.
Before this release, BiteSMS would simply crash whenever the user would attempt to send a message, which would then render the whole system unusable by setting it into a never-ending boot loop. The only way to fix this issue was to restore the phone and apply the jailbreak again from scratch.
BiteSMS is a paid-for SMS app. While it might seem foolish to pay for a texting app, this one raises the bar for what an SMS app is expected to do. With features that aren’t available in the built-in SMS app, such as smileys, scheduled SMS, signatures and even passcode locks, BiteSMS’ feature set might just make you wish you hadn’t ever texted without this app.
In addition, since BiteSMS charges users a lot less for sending texts than carriers would, about 12 cents per message or less if you buy them in bulk through credits, you might end up spending a lot less money in the long run.
JailbreakMe 3.0 is a new untethered jailbreaking that works with all devices that are compactable with iOS 4.3.3 firmware. Unlike all other methods which require a significant amount of time and knowledge on how an iDevice functions, JailbreakMe only requires one tool: Mobile Safari. By pointing Mobile Safari to JailbreakMe.com, users are able to hack their devices in a matter of minutes. Although solid, this hack had known issues with some apps and accessories, namely Apple’s iPad Camera Connection, which was fixed with an update earlier this week. You can read our tutorial on how to jailbreak your phone using JailbreakMe 3.0 here.
The new version of BiteSMS fixes all known conflicts with JailbreakMe 3.0, but users should keep in mind that it’s still in beta form, therefore it is likely to have some bugs of its own. In order to apply this update, fire up Cydia and add the following repository and download biteSMS:http://cydia.bitesms.com
