TinyUmbrella Updated To Support iOS 5 Beta 3

tinyumbrella.jpg

A new version of TinyUmbrella, the tool that allows you to take backups of SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) has just been released to include support for iOS 5 beta 3.

Apple had seeded iOS 5 Beta 3 to developers of iOS Developer program couple of days back.

The backed up SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) are required if you want to downgrade to previous iOS version as Apple usually stops signing them after a new iOS software update is released.

Semaphore – developer of TinyUmbrella announced the release of the new version on his blog:

Fixed a stupid name encoding bug where folks would see their device name show up like this: “John‚Äôs iPad” instead of “John’s iPad”. It was a stupid oversight on my part. Well it’s fixed now.

Also, 5.0b3 support is included.

iOS 5 May Add Bluetooth Support To Apple TV 2G

appletv.jpg

Folks at 9 to 5 Mac report that they have discovered references in iOS 5 beta, which indicate that Apple could add Bluetooth support to Apple TV 2G that was launched last year.

Apple TV 2G comes with a combination of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip, but the Bluetooth functionality is not enabled currently.

9 to 5 Mac reports:

Apple is positioning this bluetooth support mainly for keyboards, but perhaps the bluetooth Apple TV will be able to connect to bluetooth iPads, iPhones, and iPod touches.

Users will be able to activate the device’s built-in bluetooth support via the standard settings menu. A standard pairing menu will then appear and users will need to connect with a provided passcode. Pretty standard stuff as far as bluetooth device setups go.

iOS 5 Beta 3 Supports AirPlay Mirroring For FaceTime! Takes Video Calling To Your Big Screen TV

Wired video mirroring was first unleashed on the iPad 2 with iOS 4.3.x, but starting from iOS 5 beta, Mirroring went cables free via AirPlay but had certain limitations and didn’t work in some apps such as FaceTime.AirPlay Mirroring FaceTime

Now starting from iOS 5 beta 3, you can mirror your FaceTime video calls via AirPlay on your Apple TV 2G hooked up to your gigantic TV! Yes you read that right, whenever you’re in a FaceTime call and feel a bit closed in on your iPhone’s small 3.5 inch screen, you can take a huge leap onto your TV via AirPlay Mirroring, isn’t that awesome?!

As TiPb reports:

The ability to easily start a video call and beam it onto the big screen is compelling. Whether it’s grandpa and grandma, or the team in England, it takes FaceTime from a small, personal experience to a big, group experience at the touch of a button.

We’re quite surprised that back at WWDC, when Apple was announcing  iOS 5 and flaunting its features, they did not mention AirPlay Mirroring in FaceTime at all, maybe they felt that it was a “minor” feature compared to what iOS 5 really has to offer.

FaceTime was

iOS 5 Jailbreak Tool Sn0wbreeze Updated (beta4) To Support iOS 5 Beta 3 On iPhone, iPad, iPod touch

Earlier today, Apple seeded Beta 3 version of iOS 5 for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV to developers. The new beta 3 version includes: custom tones for tweets, Assistive Touch with Gesture Control, speed improvement, along with usual bug fixes.sn0wbreeze2.8b4

While MuscleNerd of the iPhone Dev-Team has already confirmed that the existing version of Redsn0w 0.9.8 (Windows/Mac) for iOS 5 can jailbreak the Beta 3, another iPhone hacker ih8sn0w has just pushed an update to Sn0wbreeze for Windows which can not only jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 3, but can also preserve the baseband for iPhone 4 and 3GS users who rely on Ultrasn0w or Gevey SIM unlock.

Remember, this is a tethered jailbreak for all devices except for old bootrom iPhone 3GS. iPad 2 isn’t supported.

Also, this is intended to be used by developers only. Please proceed with caution.

Full release notes are attached as follows:

Starting With iOS 5 Beta 3, You Can Now Set Custom Tones For Messages, Tweets, Voicemails, Emails And More

Ever since iOS 5 Beta 3 was seeded to developers earlier today, enthusiasts have taken a time to thoroughly examine the system and look for changes. It turns out that iOS 5 Beta 3 now allows users to set custom alert tones for everything, from new text messages and emails to calendar alerts, reports TechCrunch.iOS 5 Beta 3

This feature has been quietly added, without any comment from Apple on the matter, even though it adds a customization option to the system that any 10-year-old basic phone is able to do. In order to start adding your custom tones, you need to access the iOS Settings App, head to “Sounds” and tap on the tone you’d like to change.

Aside from all the default tones, you should now see a new option named “Buy More Tones”, which suggests that Apple is looking for yet another way to monetize the platform.

Back at a iTunes-related event in 2007, Apple enabled the option for iPhone users to create ringtones based on a clip from a song of their choice, all from iTunes. This feature didn’t generate much more press than the post-event coverage, mainly due to the cost of the ringtones: 99 cents, in addition to the cost of the song, was just too much, especially since there already were custom tools that allowed ringtones to be created for free.

This feature was considered a flop and was quickly forgotten by Apple, although it now seems to be rising from the ashes. It’s still unclear how the new “buy custom tones” feature will work, but if the process is made seamless enough, it’s possible that enough users might adopt it.

Other features in iOS 5 Beta 3 have surfaced as well, such as additional options in the system’s new setup wizard, which allows users to get a new device up and running without a connection to iTunes; as well as a new icon for Reminders, a new to-do system that’s able to display notifications at a certain time, in a certain location.
