Boost Weak Network Signal On Your iPhone Using ‘SignalRefresh’ Cydia Tweak

If it isn’t the battery life on the iPhone that people have cause to grumble about then it’s the signal strength, and let’s be honest the iPhone has been known to give consumers both battery and signal power ammunition in the past.

Thankfully there hasn’t been a great deal of complaining about the received signal strength recently, but anything that serves to give it a little boost can’t be a bad thing, right?

While it may look like the phone just miraculously connects to the airwaves when you turn it on, there is actually a significant amount of telecommunications wizardry that goes on in the background to afford people with the luxury of making and receiving calls on a mobile phone.

Each network is made up of a complex array of cell towers that broadcast their signal around the local area and as you might expect, signal is going to be stronger in some areas than it is in others.

TinyUmbrella Updated to Add Support For Revised iOS 5.1.1 (Build 9B208) – Download Now

notcom a.k.a semaphore has released a new version of TinyUmbrella (5.11.01) to add support for the revised iOS 5.1.1 (9B208), that was quietly released for GSM iPhone 4 users yesterday.

TinyUmbrella allows you to take backups of SHSH blobs (ECID SHSH) that can be used to downgrade to older iOS versions even after Apple stops signing the iOS firmware file.

It can come in handy if you end up accidentally upgrading to the latest version of iOS.

Initially, it was possible to downgrade only iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad 1, iPod touch 4G and iPod touch 3G from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1 using the SHSH blobs saved using TinyUmbrella. But iPhone Dev team released a new version of Redns0w few days back that also allows users to downgrade their iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iPad 3.

It’s very simple to save SHSH blobs. All you need to do is follow these steps:

Switchy: Jailbreak Tweak Enhances iPhone’s App Switcher

Switchy is a new jailbreak tweak developed by John Coates that aims to enhance the app switcher or multitasking tray.

Switchy is inspired by Brent Caswell’s concept, who felt that the app switcher in iOS should be taller.

Switchy adds a second row of apps to the app switcher, so it is less cumbersome to go through the list of apps. The dots at the bottom of the two rows of app icons tell you how many pages of apps you have in the app switcher, which is quite neat.

Switchy makes good use of the additional real estate created by the second row. If you swipe left, it displays the artist and album and the volume control and AirPlay button in the Now Playing page (so you don’t have to swipe left one more time to get to them).

If you swipe left from the Now Playing page, the settings page gives you a quick access to the Settings app, ability to close all the apps in the app switcher with the Clear Apps button and also the ability to control the brightness of the screen.

Absinthe 2.0.2 Adds Support For Revised iOS 5.1.1 (Build 9B208). Download now!

Chronic Dev team has released a new version of Absinthe (2.0.2), which adds support for the revised version of iOS 5.1.1 (Build 9B208).

Apple had quietly released the revised iOS 5.1.1 yesterday for GSM iPhone 4. While Apple hasn’t provided any details, it is being speculated that the iOS software update has something to do with AT&T and 4G networks.

GSM iPhone 4 users who had restored their iPhones with the latest version of iOS 5.1.1 had problems jailbreaking their iPhone with Absinthe as they were greeted with “This device is not supported” error message. Absinthe 2.0.2 address the issue.

If you had problems jailbreaking your iPhone 4 on iOS 5.1.1 then you can try again using Absinthe 2.0.2.

If you’ve successfully jailbroken your iOS device with Absinthe 2.0 or 2.0.1 then you don’t need to use the new version. Absinthe 2.0.2 adds support for the revised iOS 5.1.1 build.

$399 iPad 2 users will have to wait as Absinthe still doesn’t support their iOS device. Absinthe 2.0.2 supports the following iOS devices running on iOS 5.1.1:

pod2g: We Have Exploits For iOS 6 Jailbreak

pod2g and the Chronic Dev team released the eagerly awaited Absinthe 2.0 – the iOS 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and Apple TV yesterday.

But it looks like they may have some more tricks up their sleeve to stay ahead of the cat and mouse game with Apple. In an interview with Softpedia at the Hack in the Box conference yesterday, Cyril aka pod2g revealed that they exploits for iOS 6 jailbreak.

Here’s some experts from that interview:

“We won’t give up on jailbreaking iOS devices because this is too important for us and we already have a part of the jailbreak for iOS 6 and we will be ready right on time for it,”

So how does the development process of an iOS jailbreak look like?
