Chronic Dev team hasn’t provided any details about the bugs they’ve fixed.

Absinthe 2.0.1 supports the following iOS devices running on iOS 5.1.1:
  • iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S
  • iPad 1, iPad 2, iPad 3 (except for the $399 iPad 2 with the tweaked A5 chip as pod2g hasn’t been able to get hold of it to test and confirm it)

How To Use Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Cydia Package To Convert Your Tethered Jailbreak Into Untethered

With the official Absinthe 2.0.1 jailbreak tool being released today, users who had been waiting to jailbreak their iOS 5.1.1 devices are free to go ahead and do so and enjoy all the untethered goodness which awaits them.

However, amidst all the excitement and chaos of the official tool release, the Chronic Dev Team haven’t forgotten about those users who have been benefitting from a tethered jailbreak over the last few weeks.

Historically speaking, being on a tethered JB means that users need to restore to a fresh installation of iOS before processing the jailbreak again to effectively upgrade to the untethered version. Thankfully, that is not the case in this instance, and in a similar fashion to the Corona package that was released alongside the iOS 5.0.1 untether, the Chronic Dev Team have pushed out the Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether package to Cydia. If you are one of the many who are still boasting a tethered 5.1.1 jailbreak, then follow the simple steps given below to upgrade to an untethered one without restoring the device to stock firmware.

Step 1: Launch Cydia from your home screen and wait for all repositories to refresh.

Step 2: Tap the ‘Search‘ icon on the bottom tab bar and search for ‘Rocky Racoon‘ (official name is Rocky Racoon 5.1.1 Untether).

We are once again sitting right in the middle of that beautiful time period when updated jailbreaking tools are available, which allow us to free our iOS devices from their technical shackles.Absinth2

For those who have been sitting with an iPhone, iPod touch or iPad running Apple’s iOS 5.1.1 firmware, you will no doubt be aware that after weeks of hard work and research,Pod2g and his team have released an untethered jailbreak for all existing iOS devices, excluding the third-generation Apple TV.

Full list of compatible devices for 5.1.1 untethered jailbreak are as follows:

  • iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS
  • iPad (3rd gen), iPad 2, iPad 1
  • iPod touch 4G, iPod touch 3G, Apple TV 2G

As a part of that hard work, the Chronic Dev Team have provided the necessary updates to their Absinthe tool, which was originally released back in January, and was the tool behind jailbreaking the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2 (on iOS 5.x) for the first time.

Absinthe 2.0 iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak Now Available For Download!

Ladies and gentleman, boys and girls, we have hit that time once again in the jailbreak cycle when we can all breathe a huge sigh of relief and raise a glass to the jailbreak producers while we overload their servers attempting to download the new and shiny utility that will provide our devices with freedom.Absinthe logo

Yes, that is right, I am indeed talking about downloading Absinthe 2.0, the latest version of the Chronic Dev Team tool that brings an untethered jailbreak to the majority of our iOS 5.1.1 devices.

We have found ourselves in an all too familiar situation over the last couple of months, stuck in limbo between wanting to update to the latest official firmware, but not knowing when or indeed if a functional jailbreak would be released.

Keeping history in mind, we should be able to rest easy in the fact that researchers such as Pod2g have always managed to escape the securities put in place by Apple to bring a jailbreak to the masses, but there will always remain a small part within us that has doubts each time Apple pushes a new version of iOS.

With work on the iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak being finished and satisfactorily tested, the team involved have included the files and exploits in a new version of the Chronic Dev Team’s Absinthe tool that was introduced to us as a jailbreak solution for iOS 5.0.1. One of the main benefits of the tool is the extreme simplicity of the interface, with user guidance being provided all the way through and only involving a few clicks to get the job done.

How to Change Your iPhone’s Default Browser

iOS does not allow you to change the default browser, which has been one of the reasons why third-party browsers are not widely used.

But if you’ve jailbroken your iOS device, then it is possible to change the default browser.

An aptly named jailbreak tweak called Browser Changer allows you to change your iPhone’s default browser from mobile Safari to a third-party browser.

All you have to do is follow these simple steps to change your iPhone’s default browser using he jailbreak tweak:

  • Launch Cydia
  • Tap on the Search tab
  • Search for Browser Changer and select Browser Changer from the search results
  • Then tap on the Install button, followed by the Confirm button
