Widgets for Dashboard X: Dashtweet, Music, Clock

Couple of weeks back, we told you about Dashboard X - a jailbreak tweak that brings widgets to iPhone’s Home screen.

While Dashboard X includes full support for the Notification Center widgets, we’re already seeing custom widgets that have been specially created for Dashboard X.

We take a look at these Dashboard X custom widgets:

Dashtweet:

As the name suggests, Dashtweet is a Dashboard X widget for Twitter. It allows you to quickly send  tweets right from the Home screen.

The custom widget makes use of the default accounts in Settings – Twitter so its quite easy to setup. It also includes Pastie integration for long tweets.

Sotheby’s to auction off working Apple-1

Earlier today, we mentioned that Sotheby’s is selling a memo that Steve Jobs sent to Atari.

While that hand-written note will be interesting to history buffs, another Sotheby’s item will garner the attention of Apple hardware enthusiasts. According to Macworld, Sotheby’s is also auctioning off a working Apple-1 computer.

The Apple-1 is one of 50 remaining units and one of only six working units in existence. It includes a cassette interface and several manuals.

The Apple-1 was sold as a logic board and originally retailed for $666. Buyers had to supply their own cases, power supply, keyboard and monitor. The working unit is expected to fetch between US$120,000 and $180,000 when it’s auctioned off next month.

Dater For iPhone Adds On-Screen Date And Time Stamps On Photos Taken With Native Camera App

I remember in the not-too-distant past when Apple co-founder Steve Jobs mentioned in one of his keynote speeches that the most popular camera used to take and upload pictures to the Flickr network was the one embedded within the iPhone 4.

That may or may not still be the case, but the statistic alone shows that a highly capable camera is undoubtedly one of the most popular functions of the iPhone.

The native Camera app that comes shipped with all iPhones and iPod touches is pretty limited in terms of features. Offering a simple point and shoot approach, the only real options allow the user to enable or disable HDR, display a grid on the screen or toggle the LED flash between on, off or automatic. Facial detection finishes off what is a simple, but extremely functional app.

The Dater tweak that has landed in Cydia exists to add certain information to all photographs that are taken with the iPhone’s camera.

Prototype First-Gen iPad Surfaces On eBay, Features Two Dock Connection Ports [Images]

Many have wondered – given that when watching video, it’s used in landscape mode – why the iPad’s dock connector isn’t located along the length of the device, as opposed the shorter side at the bottom.camTN

Even if Apple felt the necessity to keep the dock at the bottom of the tablet, it would surely have made sense to offer a dock for those preferring to plant their device lengthways.

Well in actual fact, with the very first iPad, Apple did toy with the idea of offering two separate dock connections, and although most would feel – particularly given the current curved form factor – that one is enough, a prototype has emerged which shows the original iPad with dual dock ports. Apple filed a patent for two connectors, but the concept idea never reached the end-user, and given Apple’s simple and clean ethos, it’s unlikely to ever make a return in future.

Such is the fate of many a prototype, it has found itself on eBay, and although it’s starting bid is $4,800, with a little attention paid by the blogosphere, the auctions tend to pick up at a rate of knots. Aside from the dock connectors, it is pretty dissimilar to the eventual iteration, but although packing 16 GB of flash memory, it does require minor repairs to the touch-sensing capabilities by somebody with the know-how.
