Transfer Files From iPhone, iPad, iPod touch To PC Or Mac Effortlessly Without Using iTunes

As anybody familiar with Apple products will know, music video (and pretty much everything else) is centered around the iTunes app, and if the Cupertino company had it their way, that’s how it would stay.DiskAid

The problem is though, it’s pretty much one way traffic, and although everything syncs smoothly in true Apple style, transferring content from an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch onto a PC or Mac is not quite as simple.

In the overbearing vigilance against copyright infringement, what used to be a simple trip to My Computer or Finder can often turn into war and peace. Since the DRM was scrapped on the fruit company’s digital content in favor of vaguely traceable information on the downloader, it’s become a lot harder to extract certain files sitting on our devices.

This assumption that everybody’s a pirate has helped third party applications which facilitate full device browsing and back and forth transfer.

DIY iPhone Projector (VIDEO)

There are quite a few projectors available for the iPhone, but most of them are quite expensive. So Instructables member Iamalegend has created a DIY iPhone Projector using a shoebox, duct tape, a marker, a few of Lego bricks and a magnifying glass.

Iamalegend writes:

This is a fun easy project that anyone can make in about 15-20 minutes. The whole project only cost me a dollar and works good enough that I can enjoy an entire movie on it. The way it works is the light from your phone or iPod goes through the magnifying glass and magnifies onto the wall.

The whole project is very easy to make and easy to understand.

All you need to do is place the magnifying glass on one side of box and your iPhone or iPod touch aligned in front of the magnifying glass on the other side of the box. You may need to prop it up using lego parts as mentioned by Iamalegend or something like a play-doh.

It looks like Iamalegend wasn’t the first person to create a DIY iPhone projector as we found this YouTube video created back in July by Dylan who calls himself the Household Hacker, which shows how to make your own DIY iPhone projector.

Put iOS Settings Into Folders On iPhone Home Screen With Preference Folders

It’s jailbreak tweak time again and the latest to pop up on our radar is Preference Folders.Folder Preferences 2

What Preference Folders offers is actually rather simple, but it’s something we’ve not seen done before and is well worth a look if you’re the kind of person that is constantly scanning through their Settings app in the search of one particular setting.

Once installed via the BigBoss Repo – which is a default repo inside the Cydia Store – Preference Folders does exactly what it says in the name by letting iOS users create folders inside the Settings app.

They can then populate these folders with whatever settings they like, creating a selection of most used settings or perhaps one that contains everything they never use, and just don’t want to see all the time.

Setting Preference Folders up is nice and easy, and basically comes down to toggling on or off whatever settings you want to keep inside a particular folder. The same goes, obviously, for removing them.

This tweak would be great for keeping all your other jailbreak tweaks out of the rest of the Settings app if you so wished, or maybe keeping all of your Safari tweaks together, like in the screenshot below.

You Can Now Use Siri On iPhone 4S And SiriProxy To Take Your Home Automation To A Whole New Level (VIDEO)

SiriProxy continues to amaze me. It started with Siri controlling the thermostat then moving to channel surfing on your TV. Now, a new project uses the tool with a home automation system activated by voice.Siri Proxy Home

Mark Hodder describes on his blog how he combined the SiriProxy with ioBridge and X10 widgets. ioBridge is a platform that allows you to web-enable your projects. He uses it to control the appliances and lights throughout his home.

Since SiriProxy allows you to create your own custom commands and responses, you can adapt the server to do pretty much anything. In this case, Hodder setup the server to trigger ioBridge to send commands to each web-enabled device. The setup accomplishes one basic function: turning each device on or off.

Since information regarding the SiriProxy and its use is updated frequently, Hodder doesn’t provide detailed instructions on how to set the system up. You can see the results for yourself by checking out the video below.

Hodder used a MacBook to run the SiriProxy and a PHP server to setup the commands and responses. He mentions that a Windows platform can be used, but may be more difficult to set up. The PHP script itself is simple. By hardcoding a Widget ID and state variables, the file triggers an on or off function automatically when Hodder communicates with it through Siri.

How To Fix iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch Wi-Fi Connectivity Issue After Upgrading To iOS 5

Few days back Engadget reported that some users were facing Wi-Fi connectivity issues after upgrading to iOS 5 or iOS 5.0.1. Based on this discussion thread, it seems to be affecting iPhone 4S, iPhone 4S, iPhone 3GS, the iPads and even iPod touch users.

This is not the first time iOS device users are facing Wi-Fi connectivity issues after upgrading to the latest iOS 5/iOS 5.0.1 software update. Users have reported similar issues with Wi-Fi connectivity after upgrading to iOS 3.x and iOS 4.x software  update as well.

If you’re facing any of these issues, you can follow these tips to see if one of them resolves the issue until Apple releases an iOS software update to fix the issue:

Basic Troubleshooting:

  • Launch Settings app
  • Tap Wi-Fi
  • Turn Wi-Fi toggle off and then on again

Renew IP Address:

If this doesn’t work then try to renew IP address, which may be required if you are using a larger wireless network.

  • Launch Settings app
  • Tap on the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
  • Scroll down and tap on the Renew Lease button

Forget This Network:

If renewing IP address doesn’t resolve the issue, try establishing a fresh connection with the Wi-Fi network by using the Forget This Network option. Please note that this will clear your current Wi-Fi network settings, including saved Wi-Fi passwords.
