iPhone Tips: How To Extend Your iPhone’s Battery Life
Apple claims that iPhone 3GS offers up to 5 hours of talk time on 3G (12 hours on 2G), 5 hours of Internet use (9 hours on Wi-Fi), 10 hours of video playback or 30 hours of audio playback and finally 300 hours of standby time.
However, you might have observed significantly lesser battery life based on your usage pattern.
Apple has some useful tips on how to extend battery life of iPhone and iPod Touch.
Live from the Red Carpet: E! Online mobile app relaunched for Oscars
Just in time for the Academy Awards on Sunday, March 7th (when you should be participating in the TUAW Talkcast…), E! Entertainment has relaunched the popular E! Online mobile app.
When we say popular, we mean it — there are apparently over 1.4 million iPhone and Android users who enjoy their celebrity and entertainment news direct from the free app. The new version of the app includes the “E! Talk Box,” which gives users a chance to record their own video commentary for possible inclusion on E! and/or E! Online. While your chances of getting your video snippet on the air are probably slim, at least you can finally talk back to the TV.
Part of the app update includes a new carousel navigation menu above the news section (see photo at right) that highlights coverage during the award season with special videos and a “Live from the Red Carpet” section.
Review: Viva il Re board game app asks to be crowned
The iPhone might be the most amazing computer you can slip into your jeans, but there are some things it just doesn’t do very well. For example, you can’t really get into a bluffing match against the machine, at least not with the iPhone/iPod touch app Viva il Re ($1.99). Here’s what we mean.
Viva il Re (which means “Long live the King” in Italian) is a well-designed board game by Stefano Luperto that has been beautifully ported to the iPhone by by Pro-netics S.p.A. The object is to score points and hopefully get one of your characters to become the new king, because the old king has decided to retire (can kings do that?). With the retirement announcement, “the pirouette for succession begins!” according to the official game setup. Each player is secretly hoping one of their six characters manages to reach the top, out of 13 total.
Encouraged by iPhone market, Nuance announces new medical apps
Dragon Dictation and Dragon Search from Nuance Communications were definite crowd-pleasers, so today the company is announcing specialized medical versions of the apps for physicians and medical professionals.
The first app is Dragon Medical Mobile Dictation. It is designed to allow clinicians to dictate patient notes, emails and text messages instead of typing them on a mobile device. The idea is to let medical professionals dictate and capture information in real time with a smartphone, without having to return to a desktop or laptop computer. The product is expected to be available before the end of the year.
Nuance is also announcing Dragon Medical Mobile Search, a variation of Dragon Search that will allow medical staff to search a variety of medical websites completely by voice using an iPhone.
Line2 adds a second line to your iPhone for $15 a month
Would you like to add a second line to your iPhone? Perhaps you’d like to add a business number to the phone, but your existing phone is currently tied to your personal mobile number. You could always carry a second phone, but that’s an expensive proposition, particularly if you’re an iPhone addict.
