ZeptoLab has announced that the sequel to its popular physics-based gaming title Cut the Rope will be coming to iOS on December 19th.
Cut the Rope 2 will launch first on iOS, with a new experience and game mechanics, but will preserve the “foundation” of the original game.
The game will still have Om Nom as the protagonist, and you’ll still have cut ropes to feed him, but there’ll be helper characters, and a more dynamic game play.
In Cut the Rope 2, Om Nom has gotten lost and must find his way back home. His journey involves traversing different environments, each with different mechanics for players to engage with. In a forest level that Polygon played, the candy sat at the top of a platform that was attached to ropes. Beneath it were more platforms attached to more ropes. We had to strategically cut the ropes so that the candy would roll down the screen from platform to platform before reaching Om Nom’s mouth.
ZeptoLab’s CEO says that while the gaming studio has grown quite big, it still intends to preserve its indie roots and design the game from bottom-up, and not top-down, which involves making decisions based on numbers. Hopefully, this means Cut the Rope 2 won’t go the “free to play” route, where the game is free to download, but includes In-app purchases.
