Sleep and exercise are two activities that are vital to your health and well being. There are many apps and hardware options that let you track one or both; the latest app release from Motion X, Sleep by Motion X, adds to the list of dual-capable tools.
Motion X is known for its inexpensive and popular navigation apps; consider this app a GPS for your body.
First and foremost, Sleep by Motion X is a sleep cycle analyzer. The app steps you through the process of setting up your iPhone to record your movements while you sleep. You can either attach your iPhone to your arm via an armband or leave the phone sitting next to you on the bed.
The app tracks every movement and uses that information to calculate the amount of time you spend in deep sleep, light sleep or awake. It also has an alarm that’ll wake you up at the right time in your sleep cycle. If, for example, you need to wake up close to 7 am, the app will examine a half hour window around that time and wake you up when you will feel the most refreshed. It also logs your sleep pattern so you can analyze how deeply or fitfully you sleep.
Besides sleep, the Sleep by Motion X app also lets you track your activity level. When you are active, you use your iPhone to record your walk or run and it will calculate your number of steps, calories burned, daily goal and more. It’s a rough approximation and not as detailed as the Nike+ GPS system, Fitbit, Fuel or RunKeeper, but it’s good enough for those who want to track their general activity level.
