Download Public Beta 1 Of iOS 10.1 And macOS Sierra 10.12.1

iOS 10.1 public beta 1 and macOS Sierra 10.12.1 public beta 1 are available to download now. Here are the details.

Apple has officially continued the development process of iOS 10 and macOS Sierra by making the latest betas available to individuals enrolled on the company’s Apple Beta Software Program. Today’s release follows hot on the heels of yesterday’s release of iOS 10.1 beta 1 and macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 1 for those registered on Apple Developer Program.

iOS 10.1 public beta 1

The first beta release of iOS 10.1, as expected, is essentially a big release on Apple’s part. With that said, iPhone 7 Plus owners are able to benefit from one fairly exciting feature integration that was first talked about during Apple’s iPhone event earlier this month; the new ‘Portrait’ mode unlocked via a software update. Adding this feature into iOS 10.1 means that owners of the iPhone 7 Plus with the innovative dual-lens camera system will be able to capture those stunning portrait style images with depth-of-field bokeh effects. Other than that, there isn’t a huge amount to dive into with iOS 10.1. Looking it at overall, iOS 10.1 is predominantly a bug fix release that sees Apple’s engineers put right some of the more pressing issues that have clearly been discovered after iOS 10/10.0.1 went live to the public.

iOS 10.1 public beta 1 is available to download now via beta.apple.com, or as an over-the-air download for those that have an OTA configuration profile installed on their device from Settings > General > Software Update.

macOS Sierra 10.12.1 beta 1

The initial public build of macOS Sierra was barely in the hands of the public before the first 10.12.1 beta went live to registered developers. Now, in order to get as many testers as possible testing out the latest build, Apple has also brought public testers into the equation. Unfortunately for those testers, macOS Sierra 10.12.1 isn’t exactly the most feature rich update to the platform. In fact, the release is predominantly bug fix and performance enhancement focused, which means that testers should hopefully find themselves in a more pleasurable environment as Apple looks to eradicate known issues and bugs.

Anyone looking to test macOS Sierra, and who has the relevant account privileges, is able to download the latest version direct from Apple, or as an update via the Update section of the Mac App Store.

We don’t know exactly how many beta releases iOS 10.1 or macOS Sierra 10.12.1 will go through before it’s ultimately released, but as always, we will keep you posted with any releases.
