It was a surprise to discover recently that Apple Music officer and Beats 1 head Ian Rogers was leaving Apple simply 2 months after the launch of the company’s streaming music service.

What’s equally unexpected is where he’s going: Re/code reports that he is signing up with French luxury giant LVMH.

Rogers will certainly leave California and move to Paris, where he will be chief digital officer at LVMH, the holding business behind renowned luxury brands like Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs and Bvlgari.

This validates earlier reports that he was joining a European business in an unrelated industry.

The fit is far from obvious. The previous Beats Music CEO has actually invested his whole career in the music company, and while some had speculated that the step from CEO to senior officer may have been a difficult one, there’s as yet no idea that Rogers will be resuming a CEO role within LVMH.

The get is a bit of revenge for LMVH which has actually seen a number of execs leave for Apple ahead of the Apple Watch intro.
