As meant in an earlier record from Nikkei, Sony today verified it is spending 35 billion yen ($$ 345 million) to increase the production of image sensors for smartphones and tablets, records Reuters.

The electronics firm will utilize the 35 billion yen to increase manufacturing of stacked CMOS sensing units at two factories in Kyushu, Japan along with complete work at a factory it lately acquired from Japanese chipmaker Renesas Electronic devices. This investment will certainly improve production by 13 percent, enabling Sony to generate around 68,000 wafers a month by August 2015.

Sony is a leader in the imaging sensing unit market, supplying electronic camera components for significant smart phone and tablet suppliers, consisting of Apple and its iPhone because the iPhone 4s. Sony is rumored to be supplying Apple with a 13-megapixel Exmor IMX220 rear cam sensor and perhaps the front-camera component for the iPhone 6.
