With over 1.2 million applications to choose from, it’s tough to dispute that the App Store deals with a discoverability trouble. The level to which the issue needs immediate attending to from Apple, however, remains an ongoing debate among designers and tech onlookers.

The other day, former Apple exec Jean-Louis Gassee posted a blog post making the situation for App Store curation.

Rather of using formulas to sort and advertise the applications that you permit on your shelves, why not delegate a little group of adepts to develop and shepherd an App Store Overview, with areas such as Performance, Digital photography, Education and learning, and so on. Within each area, this team of reputable but unnamed (and so “ungiftable”) doubters will certainly evaluate the best-in-class apps. Additionally, they’ll offer skilled opinions on must-have attributes, UI looks, and ideas and techniques. A weekly e-newsletter will certainly identify significant brand-new titles, react to counter-opinions, perhaps offer a designer profile, footnote the occasional errata and mea culpa …

The result will be a more intelligible App Store that makes iOS individuals happier.

It’s an interesting idea, however one that apparently overlooks what a gigantic endeavor across-the-board curation would entail. I’ll have an opposing point of view item up pretty soon, but in the meanwhile, if you’re pro- or anti-Apple obtaining into the app curation game in a major way, do not hesitate to take our survey and speak out in the remarks listed below. Make sure to discuss your survey solution with your pals using the Twitter and facebook share buttons on the poll.
