SmartSearch, developed by Guillermo Moran (fr0st), is a tweak that allows you to ask questions within Spotlight and get a quick answer without having to go through an app like Google or your favorite search engine.
Contrary to popular belief, the results are not pulled from Google. fr0st stated “…it queries a service called “True Knowledge“ (Or Evi, as it’s commonly known on the App Store) and WolframAlpha.”
Evi and WolframAlpha are not as reliable or comprehensive as Google, but when in a fix you can give it a shot to see if it can answer your question.
While not all questions/searches are supported, you can get some results if you ask the right question the right way. Proper grammar is necessary.
SmartSearch is dependent on SearchLoader, which allows you to manage what categories your Spotlight searches.
If the search queries for SmartSearch weren’t so strict and allowed for a little more wiggle room in terms of the phrasing of questions, I think this would be a useful tweak for quick questions while on the go. Maybe this is something to work on for a future update.
You can pick up SmartSearch in the BigBoss repo for free.
