In the battle of the navigation apps, there’s a silent warrior that’s left out of the skirmishes between Apple, Google, and the rest. That app is TeleNav’s Scout (free, Scout Plus service available via in-app purchase), and it just received an update to make it even more useful.

First, the app has been optimized for the larger screen of the iPhone 5. The UI has been cleaned up, providing a much clearer view of the map and major function icons. There’s a new My Dashboard view, providing one-tap access to places that you’ve listed as favorites as well as recent trips.

Scout also shows upcoming turns when you’re navigating, and discovery capabilities have been vastly improved in the new version. Many of the new features of the award-winning Scout app are displayed in the video below.
