Amazon Starts Selling Apple TV 4K

Global behemoth retailer Amazon is now officially selling Apple’s brand new Apple TV 4K set-top box, which instantly proves that the new-found relationship between the two businesses is blossoming.

After nearly two years of not selling Apple TV, Amazon is now back in bed with the Cupertino-based business with a deal that will also see the retailer pushing out a dedicated Amazon Prime Video app to the tvOS App Store.

Many consumers who have opted to stick with Apple’s ecosystem and purchase a new Apple TV over the last two years have often found themselves perplexed as to why they couldn’t make that purchase via Amazon. After all, it’s generally accepted that anything you want to own can be purchased via the company.

Amazon has released a statement back in October 2015 suggesting that Prime Video was a big focus for them going forward and that Apple TV didn’t have any focus on that portal, insisting “It’s important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion.” That involved the immediate removal of the device from Amazon’s store.

With the new agreement in place between Apple and Amazon, that has all changed. The sale of Apple TV 4K via Amazon should also mean that anyone purchasing that Apple TV unit should expect to see the dedicated Amazon Prime app making an appearance on the tvOS App Store anytime soon. During Apple’s September 12 event, the iPhone-maker confirmed that the Amazon Prime Video will be coming soon, claiming “Apple TV 4K will also offer 4K HDR content from popular video services, including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, coming soon.”

Those who are interested in the Apple TV 4K can order the device right now from Amazon for $199.00 (64GB) or $179.00 (32GB), though the device appears to be out of stock at this point in time.

As the name suggests, owners will be able to consume 4K HDR content on Apple TV 4K with Apple already going through the process of updating iTunes Store with 4K, HDR10, and Dolby Vision HDR compatible movies.
