Apple Announces 2019 iPhone Battery Repair Prices, AppleCare+ Adds Theft And Loss Option

Apple has updated its customer-facing iPhone battery replacement / repair web page to provide an update and insight into what will happen with the cost of repair from January 1st, 2019 and beyond. Additionally, the Cupertino-based company has also updated its AppleCare+ plan with new payment terms and optional higher coverage.

When consumers were raging and venting online about terribly performing batteries, Apple was the hero that everyone in that boat needed and stepped up to offer reduced battery repairs for just $29.00.

That price was offered to consumers with affected devices throughout 2018 and took the repair price down by $50.00 from the normal price of $79.00. The offer was limited in terms of how long it would run, leaving iPhone owners apprehensive about how much they will need to pay from 2019 onwards.

The updated web page has confirmed that prices will be rising but not back to the $79.00 high. iPhone XS / XS Max, and iPhone XR owners will be asked to pay $69.00 should they need their battery repaired or replaced after January 1st, 2019. Anyone with an older model iPhone will need to part with $49.00 to have the necessary work undertaken.

Those new changes will take place from January 1st, 2019, meaning that if you think you may need to have your battery replaced, then it’s financial frugal to do it right now and benefit from the lower price point.

Apple has also updated its AppleCare+ protection program to include a higher level of support for individuals who may want to protect their devices against loss or theft as well as damage. Standard AppleCare+ will continue to run at a cost of $199.00. The new AppleCare+ which loss and theft protection will be charged at the higher price of $299.00. As well as introducing this new type of AppleCare+, Apple has also put in place a monthly payment plan for the insurance which will allow device owners to split the cost of the plan over a period of time.

Standard AppleCare+ will cost $199.00 or $9.99 per month over 24-months. AppleCare+ with Theft and Loss will cost $299.00 or $14.99 per month over the same 24-month period. As something to be wary of, if you do opt to take the Theft and Loss plan then Apple will also require you to have Find my iPhone activated on the device in order to be covered under the terms of the plan.
