Apple has started accepting American Red Cross donations as part of the California wildfire relief effort. Donations can easily be made on the web from Apple’s homepage or from the App Store or iTunes Store using the payment method associated with your Apple ID.
Apple offers six donation amount options: $5, $10, $25, $50, $100, and $200. Apple notes that donations transfer 100% to the American Red Cross which is supporting the wildfire relief effort, and donations are made anonymously as Apple doesn’t share contact information with the organization.
Wildfires have impacted the area for more than a week now, per The Associated Press:
The fires north of San Francisco have destroyed 16 homes and are threatening more than 8,000 buildings. State fire officials say the fires are in rugged terrain and continue to grow.
KCRA-TV reports that about 14,000 people are under evacuation orders.
The week-old fires have blackened more than 195 square miles (125,000 acres or 506 square kilometers). The fires are 39 percent contained but the U.S. Forest Service says they continue to grow rapidly thanks to hot, dry, windy weather and an abundance of tinder-dry brush.
Thank you to the firefighters near @YosemiteNPS and across the country, protecting communities and our irreplaceable natural treasures. We are forever grateful for your bravery.
