Apple Podcasts Subscriptions Are Now Finally Live

Apple has today made its Apple Podcasts Subscriptions available, giving podcasters the chance to receive support directly from fans and listeners. They’ll pay a monthly fee via the Podcasts app.

Apple announced the whole Podcasts Subscriptions service back in April and it was supposed to go live soon after.

However, Apple then decided to delay the launch to give it time to make sure that it could offer the best experience to both podcasters and listeners.

Just like the App Store, all transactions are handled by Apple and for that it takes the same 30% off the top. That means that Apple will hand 70% over to podcast creators. It’s a good way for creators to earn money where they might otherwise not, but it’s less enticing to those who already have their own membership system running elsewhere.

There is also a catch in terms of people having to use the Apple Podcasts app to listen to shows if they want to take advantage of any special content that’s shared, too.

Anyone who pays money to a podcaster via Apple Podcasts will not receive any special and exclusive content if they don’t continue to use the same Podcasts app.
