Apple Says It’ll “Welcome Fortnite Back Onto iOS” If Epic Removes Its In-App Purchase System Ahead Of Season 4 Launch

Epic’s Fortnite Chapter 2 – Season 4 update kicks off in just a few hours and that leaves iPhone, iPad, and Mac users with a problem.

The removal of Fortnite from the App Store means that Epic can’t update the game, in turn preventing gamers from taking part in the new season. But that doesn’t have to happen, says Apple.

Following the recent restraining order loss, Epic was unsuccessful in getting Fortnite back onto the App Store. But Apple says that it’s happy to take Fortnite back. So long as Epic removes the direct payment system that caused all of this in the first place.

We thank the court for recognizing that Epic’s problem is entirely self-inflicted and is in their power to resolve. Our very first priority is making sure App Store users have a great experience in a safe and trusted environment, including iPhone users who play Fortnite and who are looking forward to the game’s next season.

We agree with Judge Gonzalez-Rogers that ‘the sensible way to proceed’ is for Epic to comply with the ‌App Store‌ guidelines and continue to operate while the case proceeds. If Epic takes the steps the judge has recommended, we will gladly welcome Fortnite back onto iOS. We look forward to making our case to the court in September.

That, it seems, isn’t going to happen. Epic itself has told Fortnite gamers that they won’t be able to enjoy the new season on iPhones, iPads, and Macs. It blames Apple, saying that it is preventing Fortnite from being updated. That of course is true, although the reason it’s doing it is entirely down to Epic’s own decisions.

So that’s great. Games lose out again.
