Apple’s AirPower said to be released next month, pricing info still unclear

Alongside the iPhone 8 and iPhone X last September, Apple showcased its wireless charging accessory called AirPower. The charging mat will allow Apple users to charge their iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch on the same surface. At the time, Apple teased a 2018 debut, and now it looks like we’re inching closer to that release….

According to a new report from Macotakara, Apple is on schedule to begin selling AirPower sometime in March through its own retail stores, as well as resellers such as Best Buy.

The report doesn’t offer a specific release date, with the blog’s source only saying that the release will occur sometime next month.

Today’s report echos a similar report from The Apple Post earlier this month that also indicated a March release for AirPower. That report also noted that Apple was going to only sell the updated AirPods case with wireless charging through its retail stores, not third-party sellers like Best Buy.

Macotakara doesn’t make any claims regarding the AirPods wireless charging case. Bloomberg earlier today outlined the second-generation AirPods that Apple has on the docket for this year, though it too failed to offer pricing and availability details on the wireless charging case for the current-gen model.

Pricing details remain unclear for AirPower. A Polish retailer listing back in November suggested that the wireless charging mat could be priced at $199, but as we noted at the time, it’s unlikely that the retailer would have inside knowledge of how Apple plans to price its unreleased product.

Macotakara has a generally reliable track record when it comes to Apple product releases and details, but as always, these reports should be taken with a grain of salt until Apple itself makes the official announcement.

Do you plan on buying the AirPower charging mat? There are certainly cheaper wireless charging options out there, but AirPower stands out in that it offers three chargers in one. Let us know your thoughts down in the comments.
