Apple’s Truly Wireless Powerbeats4 With New AirPods H1 Chip Coming Next Month

Earlier this week, we finally saw the arrival of updated AirPods after months of expectation. They came with a whole new H1 chip for improved connectivity, replacing the old W1.

Now, according to an article by CNET, updated Powerbeats headphones may also be on the way, using the same chip.

According to the report, the Powerbeats will finally go wireless as soon as next month, which would mean that the update will come just weeks after the introduction of the new AirPods. The wireless Powerbeats will also take advantage of that new H1 chip, meaning the same “Hey Siri” functionality will carry over as well.

A cord-free version of the Beats PowerBeats wireless sports earphones will be announced in April, according to a person close to the retail channel who has previously provided credible information to CNET.

While Powerbeats do currently work wirelessly, they aren’t truly wireless a la AirPods and instead have a wire connecting the two earbuds. This update will cut that cord, making them a more direct competitor to AirPods. Throw in that H1 chip, and all that comes with it and these could be a pretty good option for anyone who finds that AirPods simply won’t stay in their years.

We don’t yet know what price these updated Powerbeats would sell for, but by cutting the cord, they’d presumably need a new charging mechanism just like AirPods. That’s likely to mean an increase in price beyond the current $199 they cost, making them more costly than AirPods. Depending on whether there is any wireless charging feature, it could jump up significantly.
