Did The Headphone Jack Finally Die For Android With Samsung Ditching It With The Galaxy S20 Lineup?

After months and months of rumors and leaks, the Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra are here. And they look pretty awesome. So long as you don’t want a headphone jack.

Samsung has killed it off in what can only be described as its biggest flagship phone. Sure, there’s the Galaxy Note, but it’s the Galaxy S line that people look to. And it’s now ditched the headphone jack.

Ryne Hager of Android Police has made the point that with Samsung’s decision, we just saw the end of the headphone jack on Android. The argument is that by removing the jack from a phone many people see as the Android phone, Samsung has set a precedent. We’ll ignore the fact that Apple did it years ago. And it wasn’t even the first then, either.

The suggestion is that Samsung will set the lack of a headphone jack as a new standard. One that other manufacturers will follow. And while that might be true, it’s fair to say that the headphone jack was already on its last legs.

Samsung was one of the last holdouts with the Galaxy S line. It can be argued that Samsung is actually late to the game, rather than setting the roadmap that everyone else will follow.

No matter which way you look at it or where you stand on that debate, the headphone jack is going away. It’s already gone for most people, and no matter how much some people bitch and moan, it isn’t coming back.

Just look at the huge numbers of AirPods sold each year to see why that might be.
