Apple’s hot new iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max might now be on sale but some people will tell you that they’re identical physically.
Those people would be wrong, which begs the question – will these new iPhones work just fine with cases designed for last year’s iPhone models?
The answer to that is simple, and it’s a resounding no. Sure, these new iPhones aren’t a huge departure from last years, but there are points to note. Firstly, Apple has made the new devices slightly thicker to allow for bigger batteries, so that’s going to be a problem for some cases.
Next, there’s that huge camera bump around the back. It’s bigger, deeper, and just altogether more-er.
Apple has also moved some things around, too. The volume buttons as well as the mute button have moved slightly which is going to be a problem for most cases. With that in mind, we’d very much suggest that you just buy a new case if you want to make sure that you can keep your device in pristine condition for as long as possible.
Just got an iPhone 13 Pro case, put it on my 12 Pro…@siracusa may have had a point about this camera bump #AppleEvent pic.twitter.com/8J5NJUEX1h

Apple offers a ton of its own cases, but the likes of Casetify, ESR, and others also have their own cases that you can buy, too.
