Apple has officially made available to download iTunes 12.7 with iOS 11 support for both Windows and Mac users.
The updated version of what is perhaps the company’s most famous software comes immediately after the closure of today’s iPhone media event and offers, as mentioned earlier, instant support for iOS devices running iOS 11.
The general Apple-loving public has been waiting patiently for this particular media event to come along. There has been a huge amount of interest in the company’s 2017 iPhone range, with millions of consumers looking forward to seeing if this new iPhone lived up to early expectations.
iTunes may not be as exciting as the new iPhone, or any other hardware announcement to come out of the event today, but it’s an integral piece of software for those who regularly use Apple’s iPhone. This latest version ensures that anyone purchasing a new iPhone, or who intends to immediately upgrade to iOS 11, will have full compatibility with it.
It’s not often that we see Apple really pumping resource into the iTunes platform and bringing significant changes. Everyone now and then we may see a slight design overhaul, or the inclusion of new features, such as when Apple Music was introduced as a platform, but these days it’s usually minimal updates that worldwide users benefit from. This release definitely falls into that category with Apple taking the opportunity to introduce bug fixes and incremental improvements under-the-hood, and with the main area of focus being the fact that all iOS 11 devices are now compatible and able to interact with iTunes.
Everything remains the same. The internal iTunes team hasn’t added any drastic user-interface amends or brought about any confusing navigational paradigms. It’s very much the same piece of software that most of us have been using over the last few years to connect and sync our iOS devices, and for those with an Apple Music subscription, the same software which is used as the primary access point to that service on desktop or laptop.
An updated iTunes is definitely not the most exciting announcement to come of this particular media event, but it’s a worthwhile release. The update version is available to download right now via apple.com/itunes, or as an in-app update through the software update mechanism for those who already have it installed on their Windows or Mac computers.
