Download: macOS 10.15.6 Supplemental Update Released To Fix Virtualization Bugs

Apple yesterday released a new version of macOS 10.15, but it wasn’t a major update and instead comes under the Supplemental Update name. But it’s a big fix for those who had a specific problem with macOS Catalina 10.15.6 – it should keep virtualization apps like VMware running.

A bug was found in macOS Catalina 10.15.6 that caused virtualization apps to crash, in turn killing the virtual machines that they were running.

That was a big problem for people who rely on virtual machines for testing and development, or simply need to run apps that aren’t available on macOS. Now, however, the bug has been fixed.

Along the way, Apple also seems to have fixed an issue that caused the new 2020 iMac not to wake when summoned.

‌macOS Catalina‌ 10.15.6 supplemental update includes bug fixes for your Mac.

– Fixes a stability issue that could occur when running virtualization apps
– Resolves an issue where an ‌iMac‌ (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020) may appear washed out after waking from sleep

It’s likely that this will be one of the last updates that macOS Catalina sees before the arrival of macOS 11 Big Sur, likely next month.

Apple’s supplemental updates allow it to release bug fixes that might otherwise need to wait for a large bunch of fixes. In this case, both bugs needed to be fixes ASAP – especially one affecting a brand new Mac.
