Electra iOS 11.3.1 Jailbreak Team Taking It Upon Themselves To Fix Min Zheng’s Work For Public Release

You may remember that we recently brought you the news that Alibaba’s Min Zheng was calling for patience as far as the iOS 11.3.1 jailbreak was concerned due to his belief that Jonathan Levin would be carrying out some update work on QiLin which would then be used by Electra’s team for upcoming jailbreak.

Well, things have progressed since then, with CoolStar now confirming that the Electra team is now going to take on that challenge themselves instead of waiting for others’ work.

We’ve been aware for quite some time now that nearly all pieces of the Electra jailbreak puzzle were in place. The final piece of the puzzle is the APFS rootfs remount which Zheng discussed in his earlier tweet and referenced a conversation between himself and Levin at this year’s MOSEC 2018.

But as mentioned earlier, it seems that the plan has changed since that time and the Electra’s team has decided not to wait for that solution and do it themselves.

CoolStar announced the deviation via Twitter and called for all of his followers to lay off Levin. This is likely because the more toxic individuals in the jailbreak community will have been hounding Levin to try and ask for an ETA:

We (@electra_team) are working on fixing up Spark’s bypass ourselves now. Please lay off Morpheus as we are working on it ourselves now.

It’s definitely a positive that the Electra team has recognized that the work isn’t likely to get done in a timely manner if they leave it in the hands of others. However, whether or not the individuals in this team are the right people to take this task on is another story altogether. Regardless of that answer, we can only hope that we get a rootfs remount that is fully tested and offers the reliability that an Electra 11.3.1 jailbreak would demand.

With all of this going on, it’s hard to predict an exact release date for the updated version of Electra. We can only hope that the required work is done correctly and that it takes as long as it takes to get it right.
