Expected Release Dates Of MacBooks With Scissor Keyboard, Custom ARM Chip, And All-New Design Revealed In New Report

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has long been one of the people with a good finger on the pulse of Apple’s supply chain. He has more hits than misses, generally, and now he’s claiming that we could see some pretty big changes to Apple’s notebook lineup very soon indeed.

The first thing to happen, according to Kuo, is new MacBook Pro and MacBook Air notebooks with Apple’s scissor keyboards included.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro is currently the only model to use the keyboard, while the rest of the lineup uses the hated butterfly keys. Thankfully, that looks set to change, with Kuo expecting it to happen this quarter.

The outgoing butterfly keyboards have caused nothing but problems for Apple and its notebook users since its introduction, but it seems we might finally be seeing the back of it.

Just as interesting is the claim that Apple will launch a notebook with ARM at its heart, possibly as soon as the end of 2020. This comes after years of speculation that Apple intends to ditch Intel and move to its own processors – similar to the A-series chips that power iPhones and iPads.

In his latest research note Kuo says that he expects a new MacBook with the custom processor this year, although he didn’t say which model will get the new chips first. He also expects a completely redesigned lineup to arrive by 2021, although we don’t yet know what that will entail.
