Following Apple’s recent privacy initiatives with iOS 14 that are meant to clamp down on ad-tracking, Facebook is beginning to very publicly show its displeasure over the iPhone-maker’s business practices.
While the spat between the two giants has been ongoing since 2018 following Facebook’s very public trial over users’ privacy concerns – specifically the Cambridge Analytica scandal, the war of the words had been pretty professional.
Well, perhaps not so much according to insider information.
Following the Facebook scandal, when Apple CEO, Tim Cook was asked how he’d lead his team if it found itself in a similar situation, Cook said that Apple would never find itself in this hypothetical situation anyways given the company’s different stance on privacy and user data.
This did not go down well with Mark Zuckerberg, who according to WSJ, wanted Facebook to “inflict pain” on Apple given how it was able to influence public opinion regarding Facebook.
Facebook has been in disagreement with Apple over a number of issues, including the now reduced 30% proceeds charged by Apple’s App Store, as well as how it charges ‘monopoly rent‘.
