First Hands-On Video Of iPhone 8 Dummy Unit Posted Online

Things are starting to heat up and get a little more interesting where Apple’s iPhone 8 is concerned. It’s still a matter of months until we see Apple officially introduce any new hardware, but we are already starting to see more frequent leaks, including a new hands-on video which appears to show an iPhone 8 dummy unit in action.

It’s worth noting that previous leaks have likely already shown off exactly what we are seeing in this video, but this is the first time that we have actually seen it shown off in a hands-on scenario with this type of media. It also gives a fairly good glimpse at some of the key features of Apple’s upcoming device, such as the 5.8-inch edge-to-edge display, likely to be OLED-based, and the taller body of the hardware.

It’s worth mentioning that this is only a dummy unit, meaning that it isn’t operational and doesn’t come with any type of firmware installation giving us an insight into iOS 11. It is, however, an opportunity to get a better understanding of the potential visuals of the device, including the overall form factor and the glass design and stainless steel border which instantly brings back memories of Apple’s iPhone 4 and 4s.

Tweeted by Benjamin Geskin – who has been responsible for a number of shares – the unit in the video is likely to be somewhat thicker than the model which actually hits physical and digital shelves later in the year. Multiple sources have suggested that iPhone 8 will come with a stunning OLED display, but that the panel will be embedded into a device which offers no greater thickness than the 7.1mm offering of iPhone 7. There is also a suggestion that the stainless steel border of the device will be black to match the exterior of the Black and Jet Black model.

As we get closer to an eventual official announcement of the hardware we are likely to start seeing more and more credible leaks about the overall aesthetics and internal specification of iPhone 8.

As it stands, we have a fairly good idea of what to expect when iPhone 8 drops later this year, but there is still time for a curveball or two to be thrown in for good measure. We just need to get this year’s WWDC out of the way and we can fully concentrate on iPhone.
