Google Announces Pixel 6 And Pixel 6 Pro Powered By Custom Tensor SoC
Google today confirmed that it is working on a new Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro [airing that will feature the new Tensor chips that have been designed by Google.
Along with the news about the chips, Google has also shared official renders of the products that will go on sale later this year.
It’s fair to say that they look good, despite the somewhat massive camera bump that both phones have.
Google might have given us a sneak peek at what to expect, but there’s no pricing or availability information here — we’ll still need to wait a little while for that.
In terms of screen, the Pixel 6 will come with a 6.4″ FHD+ 90Hz panel that’s flat, while the Pixel 6 Pro will be slightly curved and run at 6.7″ QHD+ 120Hz. The cheaper of the two will be matte aluminum, while the more costly option gets you a polished finish.
The Tensor SoC is where all of the action is, though. Given Apple’s success with its own A-series and now M-series chips, Google seems to have decided that it’s giving up on Qualcomm and rolling its own.
Initial reports from those who have tried these devices suggest we can expect something that’s very capable when release comes around.

We’ll reserve judgment until we get to see one of these devices at least on camera, and preferably in person, though.
