How To Enable iOS 10 AirPlay In Unsupported Apps

Here’s how to enable in iOS 10 the AirPlay feature in unsupported apps using the newly released PremiumPlay jailbreak tweak.

Apple’s AirPlay is perhaps one of the unsung heroes of the iPhone and iPad and as a result, it really does not receive the attention it probably deserves. That’s a shame too, because there are few things in life more magical than wirelessly streaming a YouTube video onto a big-screen TV using nothing more than an iPhone and an Apple TV, but unfortunately, AirPlay is still hampered by some app developers, or more accurately, television companies that employ them, preventing AirPlay from being available across all apps.

The result is that you often find that you cannot AirPlay live TV to a television, and that just sucks. But this is iOS, which means there is likely a jailbreak tweak that rights this awful wrong, and it turns out there is one now available for iOS 10 just like how there has been other similar tweaks doing same on previous versions of iOS. It’s called PremiumPlay, and you can download it now.

Available to download via the prolific BigBoss repository and costing just $1.99, the PremiumPlay tweak does one thing and one thing only, but that thing is to allow some previously blocked apps to be able to take advantage of Apple’s AirPlay. Right now, the list of apps that are supported officially is fairly short, but we expect that to grow in due course and who knows, you might find that more than those listed are actually supported.

In its current state, the supported apps are:

  • Xfinity Stream
  • Verizon FIOS
  • DirecTV
  • Crunchyroll

The developer says that more are coming in future versions of the tweak, so fingers crossed for you if your favorite streaming app is not on the list as yet.

Given the tweak’s simple mandate, there are no options to configure and no icon added to the Home screen – simply install the tweak and away you go. You can’t fault that for $2 now, can you?
