How To Fix Cydia Error After APT Update On iOS 11 / 11.1.2 Electra Jailbreak

Electra version 1.0.1, complete with Cydia as part of the payload is here, but that doesn’t mean that everything is plain sailing. As we should all know by now, there are always going to be teething problems with the jailbreak as well as individual components contained within.

If, in your excitement, you have launched Cydia, received a selection of available updates, one of which is for APT, and are now receiving error messages such as “Method https has died expectedly!” whenever you launch Cydia, then you are not alone.

The problem has occurred after Saurik pushed an update for APT, breaking CoolStar’s Electra 1.0.1 Cydia fork for iOS 11 in the process. While the error may seem troublesome at first but rest assured that it can be solved with just a small amount of tinkering on the device. With that said, just because you can tinker, doesn’t mean that you should, so make sure you have the requisite knowledge and skills before you start modifying and copying files.

Step 1: First and foremost, you are going to need to be in possession of a relevant APT file compatible with Electra’s fork of Cydia that you need to copy across to your device using SSH. You can grab the required file from here.

Step 2: Now use a program like Cyberduck (Mac) or WinSCP (Windows) on your computer to SSH this file over to your device and put it into a directory or location that you will remember, such as /private/var/mobile/Documents.

Step 3: SSH into your device again by ssh command, this time using a program like Terminal, OpenSSH or PuTTy (we recommend Terminal). Navigate to the directory where you placed the downloaded .deb file. Make sure that it is your active directory. Run the following command: dpkg -i apt7-lib_0.7.25.3-15_iphoneos-arm.deb

Once that command has been successfully executed you should notice that the issue is fixed and Cydia should be working again.

One thing to remember is that the next time you launch Cydia, and the packages refresh and updates are showing, do not go through the process of upgrading APT again as this will once again cause you to have the same issue and receive the same error message, which means that you’ll have to redo the above process once again to fix the problem. It’s also worth noting that you may receive a warning advising that it is “unable to delete old directory.” if you tell Cydia to ignore this update. This error is safe to ignore and won’t cause any issues.

Also, while you are at it, you can also make Cydia ignore just this particular APT update by Saurik that breaks Electra the next time you refresh sources. To do this, search for and then select the package APT 0.7 Strict (lib) in Cydia, select Change Package Settings and then turn the toggle for Ignore Updates to ON position.
