Huawei Mate X Foldable Phone Release Date And Price Revealed

Foldable phones have been a whole thing lately. Or more accurately, the Samsung Galaxy Fold has. But it isn’t the only foldable phone around and the Huawei Mate X now has a launch date and price.

Huawei originally delayed the Mate X when Samsung famously had its Galaxy Fold problems, but now it’s going on sale next month, at least in China. It’ll offer 5G when it does and comes with a 55W fast charger to fill the dual-cell 4500mAh battery to 85% in just 30 minutes.

When the Mate X goes on sale on November 15th, it’ll cost 16999 yuan, or around $2400 at today’s exchange rates. That gets you the phone with 512GB of storage and 8GB of RAM.

As for when this thing will be available outside of China, we really don’t know right now. Huawei told The Verge that it isn’t happening just yet.

Our strategy is based on carriers’ 5G roll out in different regions. So far, Huawei has made the Huawei Mate X available in the China market on November 15. A global launch plan is under review.

What that actually translates to is anyone’s guess, but the most interesting thing right now is how well the Mate X survives the trials and tribulations of being used in the real world. Samsung knows how difficult a folding phone is to keep safe. Now it might be Huawei’s time to feel the pressure.
