iOS 11 Beta Compatibility For iPhone, iPad, iPod touch Devices

Here’s the iOS 11 beta compatibility chart to help you determine if your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch device will actually be capable of installing and running iOS 11 when it eventually launches later this year.

The initial beta of iOS 11 has been released into the hands of those registered on the Apple Developer Program, and it instantly means that they have something to rejoice about. Finally, after being released all those years ago, support has been officially dropped for 4-inch iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c.

Developers typically offer support for the current major version of iOS minus one, which means that up until now they have had to support all the way back to iPhone 5 and 5c thanks to iOS 10. With iOS 11, support for that hardware has now been removed. The main reason for that is that we now have confirmation that iOS 11 will drop support for all 32-bit devices. Apple has been warning users of this upcoming change for a while via an iOS alert which informs that 32-bit apps will no longer work with future versions of iOS if they aren’t updated.

This official confirmation means that Apple can finally drop support for a number of devices leaving the final list of supported iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch to 64-bit hardware only:

  • iPhone 7
  • iPhone 7 Plus
  • iPhone 6s
  • iPhone 6s Plus
  • iPhone 6
  • iPhone 6 Plus
  • iPhone SE
  • iPhone 5s

  • iPad (9.7-inch)
  • iPad Pro (9.7-inch)
  • iPad Pro (12.9-inch)
  • 2017 iPad Pro (12.9-inch)
  • 2017 iPad Pro (10.5-inch)
  • iPad mini 4
  • iPad mini 3
  • iPad mini 2
  • iPad Air 2
  • iPad Air

iPod touch

  • iPod touch 6th generation

As you can probably tell from the list above, Apple may have taken the opportunity to remove support for 32-bit devices, but the list of compatible iOS 11 hardware is still extensive. We also have to add iPhone 8 to that list when it’s released later this year, as well as any new iPod touch or iPad hardware that may make its way into the world via Cupertino.

If your device is listed above, then congratulations, you get to enjoy everything that iOS 11 represents.
